ISB/GB5/GR-3/KOL01-NP-1920-DP-2223 INDIA SPELLING BEE ISB/GB2/GR-3 2 | P a g e Welcome to INDIA SPELLING BEE !! SPELLING BEE …. The very term now conjures images of words, contests, gifts, prizes and trophies. We have been organising SPELLING CONTESTS in schools for the past 20 years. It has been an amazing experience with the participation of lakhs of students from more than 10,000 schools across 20 states. The Spelling Bee is a unique educational activity that combines education and fun, sportsmanship and competition. A Spelling Bee is an educational contest where all students can participate as spellings are an integral part of language which is the very basis of our education. Today, correct spelling has assumed even more importance because of the increase in online work and computers in our education system which is making children increasingly dependent on spell checkers. The India Spelling Bee has been designed keeping in mind the inputs gained from the past so many years of organising spelling contests across India. We have had feedback from thousands of school heads, teachers and students. They have all helped in creating a unique format for the India Spelling Bee such that, while it is competitive in nature, it also adds significant educational value to each student’s education. The India Spelling Bee is also more inclusive, as students from all across India can participate irrespective of location, board, medium of education or gender. We hope to even reach out to students of schools in the smaller towns and cities, who may not have an opportunity to participate in such contests, generally. It is seen that participation in any contest can be made more effective if students are able to prepare for it. Not only would they be more confident, but would also learn a lot in the process of preparation for the contest. This is the very reason why we have prepared the ISB Guide Book. This ISB Guide Book is designed and compiled separately for each grade keeping in mind the level of English that is suitable for them. It has a list of more than 1000 words which they can use for practice. It also has many other exercises which are related to spellings and vocabulary building. The questions in the ISB contest will also be based on these exercises. Importantly, the guide book also has a few Sample Question Papers. The format of these papers is similar to those that will be used in the contest. The students can use these to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and also learn to solve the papers within a given time. Answer keys are provided so that they can check and correct themselves. The students can use the ISB Guide Book to prepare effectively for the contest. We have tried to make it user friendly so that the students are encouraged to use it regularly. This guidebook with sample question papers and answers has received an overwhelming response from students and teachers alike. INDIA SPELLING BEE ISB/GB2/GR-3 3 | P a g e The India Spelling Bee offers an opportunity to all students of classes I – IX to participate. All participants in India Spelling Bee will be awarded Certificates of Participation. The winners at the School level can then participate at the Regional level. The winners at the Regional levels will participate at the National level. Winners will get Gifts, Medals, Trophies and Certificates. We look forward to the continued support from schools and students in our endeavour to present a well-planned, systematic and ethical SPELLING BEE in India. We would appreciate any inputs and suggestions about India Spelling Bee from students, guardians and school authorities. Looking forward to an inclusive, engaging and memorable INDIA SPELLING BEE.
