Page 3 of 4 Discussion Forums A discussion forum is one where the students get to react to questions or to issues raised by the teacher. These issues and questions are based on the topics relevant to the course being studied and are meant to enrich the knowledge of the students. Usually, the teacher posts the questions/issues in the site and the students reply individually. There are discussion forums that you are expected to join and lead in this course. Each forum is aimed at unlearning, relearning, and learning concepts, principles, and ideas that will help each student to understand better the nature of teaching reading and language which is based on solid research. You are expected to participate in the discussion forums not only because this is 20 % of your grade, but most importantly because this is a good venue for you to articulate your ideas and share them with your classmates. It will also expose you to the ideas of others and that may help you as a teacher or as future teacher. The guidelines on the length of posts as well as the courtesy to be observed in the discussion forums will be uploaded in the moodle site at the beginning of the semester. Examinations In this course, you are required to work mostly on assignments and mini-research works in lieu of examinations. Hence, it is important that all assignments and other requirements be passed on time. Grading System Note: For every work that you will be required to submit, there will be separate criteria for scoring. EXT Grade Failure to complete the requirements for the course means getting a grade of EXT. This means that you have to submit the requirements that you missed within one year after the semester. However, the grade of EXT is only applicable to those students who have complied with more than half of the requirements (e.g., participated in at least three discussions; submitted one out of three assignments; and submitted 3 out of 4 reflection papers). The grades obtained must also be satisfactory. Please bear in mind that enrolling in a course is not just a matter of completing requirements but most importantly learning and making the most of what it has to offer. GENERAL GUIDELINES/HOUSE RULES 1. Read all the assigned materials. If possible read ahead of time. 2. Take note of the schedules of submission of requirements and make sure that you submit on or before the deadline. Submitting on or before the deadline would work to your advantage for it will allow you to have a longer time to revise your work. Page 4 of 4 3. Always cite the sources of your information when you need to do that in your requirements. Failure to do so is tantamount to plagiarism. 4. Follow all the rules and specifications that I will give especially in the format of the assignments. Please don’t deviate unless you are allowed to do so. 5. Submit all requirements through submission bins for each assignment. 6. Always have backup copies of your projects. 7. Use English when participating in board discussions since there might be foreign students who will not understand Filipino; use the appropriate language in your assignments, i.e., if your lesson is in English, then use the English language and if your lesson is in Filipino, then use this language. 8. Never hesitate to ask me or contact me for clarifications and other problems that you may encounter. If you need to meet me personally, then inform me ahead of time. 9. Do all assigned works by yourself. I trust that you will exert efforts to learn, work, and come up with works that are really yours. After all, you will surely learn, relearn, and unlearn so many things that would help you personally and professionally. Faculty-In-Charge: MGrace C.
